This month, our co-founder Mahlon Kerr completed his 20th surgical mission trip with Austin Smiles — a milestone that embodies the values we pour into every glass.
“The most meaningful act of service is giving to someone who can offer nothing in return,” Mahlon said, “except a new smile and a lifetime of possibility.”
A Mission of Healing in Veracruz, Mexico
On his most recent trip to Veracruz, Mexico, Mahlon joined a team of dedicated volunteers who performed cleft lip and palate surgeries on 49 patients in just four days. Our mother, a nurse for more than 45 years, also volunteered, making this a powerful moment of service for our family.
After a long day of surgeries, she told us, “What impressed me most was the generosity of the volunteers—and all the family members who came on this trip.” Several volunteers were joined by their parents. “Every family here shares an underlying passion for service.”
Austin Smiles – The Austin Plastic Surgery Foundation – has spent nearly four decades changing lives. Since 1987, their volunteer teams have performed over 5,000 surgeries and provided more than $100 million in medical care to children across Latin America.
