Our Story
Coordinates Vineyards was built from a simple idea: some of the best wine experiences in the world happen off the beaten path.
Brothers Mahlon and Austin Kerr have spent more than 20 years traveling internationally, seeking out small producers and vineyards that over-deliver on quality. From South Africa to emerging wine regions around the world, those experiences shaped a belief that great wine is about discovery, not just tradition.
After moving to the Texas Hill Country, Mahlon put down roots in Fredericksburg and began exploring the local wine scene. He saw an opportunity to bring something different to the area – a tasting experience inspired by global travel and wines that offer both quality and value.
Austin brought over a decade of experience living in Asia and sourcing wine for the Chinese market, helping turn that vision into reality.
In 2022, they opened their first tasting room on Main Street in Fredericksburg, Texas. Today, Coordinates Vineyards has expanded to a second location in Hye, Texas, along the Highway 290 wine trail, set in a restored 100-year-old farmhouse surrounded by vineyard views.
Across both locations, the focus remains the same: a travel-inspired wine experience featuring wines from Texas, California, and South Africa, including signature Pinotage, Chenin Blanc, and traditional method sparkling wines.
Whether you visit us in downtown Fredericksburg or at our vineyard in Hye, you’re invited to slow down, explore, and discover something unexpected.

Why Coordinates?
The name Coordinates comes from a moment during Austin’s time in South Africa, sourcing wines near Stellenbosch.
While searching for a sixth-generation family vineyard tucked away in the countryside, we found ourselves completely lost. There were no road signs, no clear directions, just winding roads through the vineyards.
When we called the winemaker for help, he said:
“When you’re this far off the beaten track, you just have to go by the coordinates.”
That idea became the foundation of Coordinates Vineyards.
We believe the most memorable wine experiences come from places that are a little harder to find. Small producers, unique vineyards, and wines that offer exceptional quality and character.
Today, we bring that philosophy to the Texas Hill Country, curating a portfolio of wines from Texas, California, and South Africa that reflect discovery, craftsmanship, and a sense of place.
Whether you’re visiting our tasting room in Fredericksburg or our vineyard in Hye, Coordinates is about exploring something different, without having to travel the world to find it.

An Interview with Coordinates Vineyards Co-owner, Austin Kerr
Nestled at 417 E Main Street Fredericksburg, TX, you’ll find a historic blacksmith building, home to the beautiful tasting room of Coordinates Vineyards. Founded in 2021,Coordinates Vineyards is new to Texas, but the co-owners and brothers, Austin and Mahlon Kerr, are wine industry veterans. Austin and Mahlon have been traveling internationally for more than 20 years. Their off-the-beaten-track style has taken them to some remarkable vineyards. With a palate for fine wines, they have always looked for quality that outperforms the price.
Austin’s experience in wine dates back over 10 years. Austin was teaching in Taiwan when he started a company that imported South African wines into the booming Chinese wine market. For the next seven years, the company grew until COVID hit and importing wines to China came to a screeching halt…
