ADRIANA MARCELA CASTRO
Born in Bogotá, Colombia, 1982
Education: BA in Industrial Design (Furniture) with a Minor in Fashion Design. Escuela de Artes Plásticas y Diseño de Puerto Rico, 2009-2013
Originally from Bogotá, Colombia, I spent twenty years in Puerto Rico before relocating to Austin, where I’ve lived for the past eight years.
My creative process begins with a designer’s perspective, then evolves through my artistic instinct, merging both disciplines into a unique expression.
Description of the Artwork
My work, which I call Abstract Sculptural Painting, combines heavy paint applications with materials such as acrylic gel, oil pastels, concrete, and glitter to create rich, tactile textures that provoke curiosity. These textures are best experienced in person, as photographs cannot fully capture their depth and impact. Interior design and design in general, are powerful sources of inspiration, influencing the colors, textures, forms, and materials I use. I seek balance and harmony through my creative process, blending gestural and rational techniques. My goal is not to communicate a specific message but to offer an aesthetic experience, allowing viewers to form their own interpretations.
